SAVE THE DATE! CANCER CHARITY EVENT FOR THE NAVAJO PEOPLE
Greetings!
Benefit to be held in Los Angeles
On the evening of Saturday, November 14th, my sister , Lisa Feinstein, and I will be hosting a Turkish Carpet/Kilim and Rare textiles Show and Sale to benefit the Arizona Myeloma Network's (AzMN) Cancer Education Project for Fort Defiance and the Navajo Nation. AzMN was founded by our mother, Barbara Baroff Kavanagh, in June 2004 to help other cancer patients like her husband, Jack, who often feel alone and don't know where to turn for help and information.
AzMN provides outreach and education for Myeloma cancer patients: their families and caregivers, with special consideration to under served populations such as African Americans, Asian-Pacific, Hispanic , and Native Americans. AzMN was awarded a grant through the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Research Grants Program to complement services and programs already working in the Fort Defiance region. With nearly 300,000 members spread across 27,000 square miles of Arizona, New Mexico and Utah, the Navajo people comprise the second largest Native American population on tribal land in the U.S.
The event will be held at The Living Room from 6-10 PM 3531 W Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90026-2105 (323) 665-5070. The refreshments will be
provided by Provisions.
The rugs and other authentic traditional pieces that will be featured are all unique rugs from Turkey and Iran, Pakistan and the Caucuses. They are a part of our mother's private collection which she purchased in villages throughout Turkey during her 3 years of living there in 1997-2000. It will be a great evening and the proceeds will help continue the great work that AzMN is doing for the Navajo people and those with Myeloma.
